Richard Horne gets a shock, Diane is not quite herself, and we get the long-delayed return of someone we’ve been waiting for.

Starting with a classic Lynchian Lost Highway-style winding road (possibly Mulholland Drive) that exists in blackness bar the detail picked out by the car’s headlights, it’s easy to take Twin Peaks for granted. True, I’ve spent a lot of the last 3-4 months complaining that this wasn’t the show that I wanted, and yet ultimately it was the one I was going to get regardless. And those characters that I railed against – the Mitchums, Candie, Janey-E and Sonny Jim – I do actually think I’m going to miss them.

This episode serves as something of a mopping-up exercise, taking a few characters off the board, while also ensuring that some of them are in just the right place for the two-hour finale. As often happens when the haze begins to lift, you start to see things a bit more clearly, and unusually for this season, a number of suspicions are confirmed. But can I be the first to say that Laura Dern’s Diane has been this season’s revelation and I really hope that she gets some Emmy love.

Verdict: Will the final two hours be enough time to wrap it all up? Or will it be enough for just the key threads to have some sort on conclusion. It’s taken us 25 years to get here – so will Agent Cooper finally get to triumph over the evil that has possessed him for a quarter of a century? Episode 16 sets us up nicely, and oh that ending! I for one will be sat there with some cherry pie and damn fine coffee. 8/10
