One of the pleasures of this week’s instalment is the way that some of the very disparate threads teased across the previous 10 episodes are very slowly starting to pull together. This feels more like the show that we wanted/expected from the outset, and while there are still no solid answers to the ongoing mysteries, characters are starting to piece things together.
Fans will be delighted to see Shelley and Bobby getting some time together as they try to reel in Amanda Seyfried’s Becky Burnett after throwing her mom off a car bonnet in a trailer park. The Log Lady/Hawk dialogue continues, and even if the subtleties of what we’re being told are not quite clear yet, there’s a sense that it’s all very important.
I’m still no fan of Dougie Coop, but the Mitchum brothers are a great double act and I could literally watch vacant cocktail waitresses Candie, Mandie and Sandie all day. Laura Dern continues to shine in her scenes with Albert and Gordon, and there’s a gory moment that’s quite unexpected.
Verdict: Even a simple scene with an irate driver beeping her horn turns into something quite disturbing and shocking in Twin Peaks, and that’s one of the main reasons we watch it. A solid, progressive episode that bodes well for the season as it readies for its third act – there’s just that nagging feeling that we could have been here sooner. 8/10
