Don’t be fooled by the glorious punnery of the title, there’s a lot more going on here than you think. The Terrans’ nature as children, their innocence of their world, Bee’s arrogance and the difference between family and work are all explored here. As is Fluffy Ears, an extremely good cow.
The entire episode hinges on Danny Pudi and he nails it. Pudi’s take on the character is hot headed, cocky and perfectly pitched. His dislike of his new job resonates with the Terrans’ dislike of his training regime and when the three autobots finally butt heads, over game night, the result is funny, heart felt and surprisingly dangerous. Bee isn’t as mature as he thinks he is, the Terrans aren’t as ready as they think they are and the result is an episode that crams a lot into a short space of time. There’s a great running gag – where Bee keeps calling Prime for help and gets someone else in the middle of a much more exciting mission – that’s funny and grounded. The ending sequence is even better, as Bee and the Terrans and kids come together to stop a stampede. The closing beat has Twitch confront her self doubt, Bee learn to trust his students and all the cows very much saved. It’s a great combination of everything the show has exhibited, tying the episode off at the same time as moving the premise forward. The final scene is lovely, Prime finally returning Bee’s call only to be told he’s busy with his family.
Verdict: Sweet, funny and with a really good cow this is a great episode. 8/10
