Dick, Rachel, Kory and Gar team up and immediately test their powers. In the meantime, Doctor Adamson sends a new Nuclear Family after them.

There’s a ton of fun stuff here and it’s all logistical. The team taking the time to figure out who does what is inspired and it leads into the second sucker punch of the episode. The reaction when Robin arrives is note perfect, contextualizing but not excusing his brutality. Dick’s a force multiplier, a genuinely terrifying combatant who dismantles the Nuclear Family basically alone. And when he does, for the first time we can see why someone would enjoy being like this instead of the show shouting ‘HE’S SO DARK!’ over and over like it has up to now.

It also leads neatly into the third sucker punch where Dick goes for Adamson and just gets his ass handed to him. There’s a hint here of the show starting to land itself in that interesting not-quite-adult space the best Titans comics land in. It’s also cleverly showing its leads are vastly competent but sometimes not that experienced. Or at the very least that Robin needs an attitude adjustment.

Verdict: A strong, smart episode that drives every plot along. 7/10
