As the spies infiltrate Flagg’s stronghold, Harold and Nadine continue plotting to disrupt the Boulder Free-Zone.
Let’s face it, Stephen King’s The Stand is painted in very broad strokes – it boils down to good vs evil – but that’s never been more apparent than in this week’s visit to New Vegas, Flagg’s dominion of a literal Sin City where everyone dresses like they’re in an S&M movie.
Dayna has successfully secured a job in the city and come to the attention of Lloyd Henreid and Julie Lawry (respectively dressed as 1970s pimp with gold tooth and fur coat-wearing prostitute). They offer to introduce her to Flagg, who floats above them in his penthouse of the Inferno Casino (remember, no subtlety here) and she meets him to the strains of Elvis Presley crooning ‘We’re caught in a trap’ – yes, we see what you did there.
Without giving anything away, Dayna’s fate is somewhat tempered by the fact that we only met her last week, limiting our investment in this character. She’s worried that Julie Lawry has spotted Tom Cullen, and passes him a note telling him to run, but as he can’t read, it’s to no avail.
Back in Boulder, Nadine is trying to keep Harold sweet as they cover up Teddy’s murder, but Frannie knows Harold far too well, and engages Stu to snoop around. The scenes in Boulder are more agreeable, the sequences in Vegas being so OTT that they appear to have come from a different show or a Frankie Goes to Hollywood video.
Verdict: We’ve passed the halfway point, but there’s still a lot of ground to cover, which could spell out just one thing – ‘M O O N’ – four very packed final episodes… hopefully. 7/10
