Amy and Wolgast are brought in to Project Noah’s HQ, but there’s far more interesting things going on between the vampires.
This is Shauna’s story, with The Exorcist’s Brianne Howey finally getting something to do than just attack prison guards. We flashback to Vegas in 2012 and find out exactly what happened to turn her into a convicted murderer on Death Row, and as anticipated, it’s not black and white. But more of a revelation is the vampires’ ability to converse telepathically and to start invading their captors’ minds. We knew that the scientists and agents were having bad dreams, but were less aware that this was a deliberate plan by the infected to start planning their escape.
Vincent Piazza’s Clark Richards also gets the chance to flesh out his character from being just another generic Man in Black, the repercussions of his feelings towards Brianne now proving to be a potential threat. And it’s this establishment of sub-plots that keeps this instalment bumping along, as the story points with Amy and Wolgast take a back seat. It’s sloppy writing that the agent who went rogue and nearly derailed the whole programme is still treated as a minor inconvenience and gets a lot of room to roam just so that the story can progress.
Verdict: “We’re scientists, Agent Wolgast, and there’s no such thing as vampires.” And it’s this narrow-minded and dumb tunnel vision shared by the scientists in this show’s universe that will ultimately lead to the fall of mankind. Fun, trashy nonsense, where the villains are far more interesting than our heroes… and totally addictive. 6/10
