After obscuring their true purpose in town from the local police, Ralph and Yunis interview witnesses from the cave festival.
As the town recovers from El Cuco’s attempted abduction of a child, the mythical beast and its familiar take a step back to allow the various police officers and investigators to do their work. Holly and Andy visit the scene at Cavestock, calculating where the Claude clone is likely to have hidden, while Ralph interviews the child, hiding what the likely outcome wound have been if he hadn’t been saved in time.
What’s more pressing is the search for two young boys who sneak led into a crack in the cave system where El Cuco is resting. Their father hears them but can’t get them out, leading to a search party. This is something that also happened in 1947 (with tragic results) as relayed by Claude’s no-good brother Seele (Max Beesley), who finally adds something useful to the conversation.
Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished in this show, and Seele thoughtlessly tells his brother what the hunting party are up to, not realising that there’s a direct link with El Cuco, who has now been tipped off. When the gang arrive at the caves, possessed lawman Jack Hoskins is waiting with an assault rifle, and starts firing shots as the screen goes black.
Verdict: Who’s left standing to face the beast in its lair, and will they rescue the boys before its closes in on fresh prey? Again, the pace has kept the story flowing at a steady pace, but as we enter the final hour, surely all bets are off? 8/10
