Holly and Hoskins take a road trip and Glory finds that it’s tougher to return to work than she hoped.
Picking up from last week’s cliffhanger, Cynthia Erivo’s Holly Gibney realises that Hoskins doesn’t just want to take her to the barn, but to take her off the board. With pulsating pustules on the back of his neck, El Cuco is taking grip of him, and this forms the backbone of the episode.
Written by crime author Dennis Lehane, the scene where Holly escapes from her hostile passenger is fingernail-chewing tense, and while it’s a relief that she gets away, there’s still a monster on the loose. There’s a significant shift in attitude by Ben Mendelsohn’s Ralph, who has to accept that he can no longer discount evidence where it doesn’t fit his view of reality. There’s also a change of heart by Glory who, unable to pick up her old job, decides to fight back by suing the authorities.
Verdict: With the killer now outed, a team is forming to seek and destroy him, and one minor character will find he has a significant role to play. Gripping supernatural drama played by a top-notch cast. 8/10
