A family-centric season of the speedster’s adventures – particularly with a visitor from the future.

The fifth season of The Flash had a very family focused theme – you can read Alasdair’s reviews of each episode, starting here – and the producers and writers have been able to keep the balance of character and plot pretty consistent throughout the season, despite the various escalating threats that the entire Arrow-verse is facing. Inevitably some episodes work better than others, but there’s no real clunkers among them.

The Blu-ray set contains one Flash-centric feature, with a look at the origins of Killer Frost, while the rest of the set contains the same material as the other Arrow-verse releases (discussed in our review of the Supergirl release here). There are some enjoyable deleted scenes (particularly those from the Elseworlds crossover, which once again is here in its entirety for those who only follow some of the shows) and the standard gag reel – confirming that the cast are having a great deal of fun on set.

If you’re a Flash fan, you’ve probably had this on pre-order from the day it was announced, but with Barry’s adventures taking centre stage as the elder statesman of the Arrow-verse come the end of 2019, it’s a good time to get up to, er, speed!

Verdict: A strong set of adventures with decent extras. 8/10
