Red Daughter attacks the White House disguised as Supergirl and, overnight, Kara becomes public enemy number one. Meanwhile, James struggles with his PTSD, Lockwood makes a play for the DEO and Kara discovers the power of the press.
There’s a lot going on this episode, including a welcome resurrection for Otis, an attack on the White House and some really neat plotting. The DEO, President, Lockwood and Children of Liberty all collide here and the episode does a great job of showing how chaotic and fractious the US political situation is.
Where it really sings though is in Kara adjusting to her new status. The show is brave enough to gently mock its own leading character, and her mildly prissy disgust at not being America’s favourite superheroine is humanizing, endearing and very sweet. It also leads to some really good Kara material, and the way she changes gear from Kara to Supergirl and back again during the riot is great fun. Her cousin would be even prouder.
Verdict: Rounded out with Lex’s secret prison lab and a pleasingly burly fight (that maybe tips the hat a teeny bit to Daredevil) this is another great episode in a great season. 9/10
