The Mandalorian concludes the passage for his frog-like client and seeks others of his kind.

There’s no way to talk about this episode without entering spoiler territory, so look away now if you don’t want to discuss the big plot points. While only 35 minutes long, this episode significantly pushes the plot along after two highly enjoyable chapters that were more focused on adventure than narrative progression.

Crash landing into the waters of the black market port of Trask, Mando and the child are betrayed by Quarrels (you’ll remember them as Squidheads!) and rescued by three Mandalorians, led by Katee Sackhoff as Boka-Tan Kryze. Yes, the same character as voiced by Sackhoff in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

After establishing why some Mandalorians are prepared to remove their helmets, the trio engage the bounty hunter to help them seize the cargo of an Imperial ship commanded by Titus Welliver (Bosch). Cue some very welcome action between Mandalorians and Stormtroopers (the latter still ‘couldn’t hit the side of a Bantha!’) and a new quest for Mando and the foundling to seek out Jedi Ahsoka Tano (The Clone Wars, Rebels)!

Director Bryce Dallas Howard returns for her second episode and she gets all the toys to play with. Thankfully the story moves things along, else there’s be no time to squeeze in all the characters hinted to appear this year. And don’t worry, the Child still gets to be cute and be a nightmare with his food.

Verdict: The Mandalorian’s second season finally begins to deliver on all those big names teased during its production. Jon Favreau proves again that he knows what ticks the boxes of the Star Wars fans in the way that the new movies don’t. Currently my favourite show of the week. 9/10
