The Bad Batch dips its toes into slightly murkier political waters this week. The gang are given a mission by Cid which involves rescuing a prisoner from the clutches of the Empire. So far so simple, except the target is a former separatist Senator of a planet which was a central hub for the separatist movement. Even given the current climate, the Batch are reluctant to provide assistance to someone they once fought against, but money is money and they still have a debt to pay to Cid.
Of course, having just got Omega back from the clutches of Cad Bane, Hunter is reluctant to endanger her again, and the crew reluctantly leave her in the care of Cid. This is about as much fun for the child as you would think – at first. Eventually though, she and Cid manage to find some of that Common Ground the episode title tells us to expect.
On the planet Raxus, meanwhile, the Batch get stuck into their mission with as much gusto as they can muster. Meeting with the contact – a droid, one of their other ‘favourites’ – they proceed on to a mission which is full of the usual hijinks and action. Importantly, though the gang are forced to trust their target in order to get out of a sticky spot, there’s never any suggestion that they just decide to put differences aside and be buddies. A job is a job, and they’re not there to make friends, though perhaps they walk away from it with a little more respect for the man.
And when they return, Omega has a nice surprise for them, having once again proved her value to the team in a way that only she could. As the credits roll, it’s clear there are plenty more adventures to come for the whole team.
Verdict: Surprisingly nuanced in some ways, and more of the same action and adventure in others. A good mix. 8/10
