The documentary series chronicling rare and fascinating details of Star Trek takes a look at the starships of the series.

In a break from the previous episodes’ focus on a particular series, this time we look at the many starships that features across the shows’ 55 year history, and while it’s a lot of fun, it’s less cohesive and engaging than what’s gone before.

As you’d hope, there’s a lot of focus on Matt Jeffries’ design of the Enterprise and Andrew Probert’s redesigns for The Motion Picture and The Next Generation. We discover that the USS Reliant was originally meant to be the other way up, and there’s a bathroom just off the bridge on the Enterprise-D. I’d never realised that the ‘overgunned and overpowered’ USS Defiant was named after a ship from The Tholian Web or that the Ferengi Marauder was based on the shape of a horseshoe crab

Verdict: Enjoyable titbits of spaceship trivia, though lacking in the depth of previous episodes. 7/10
