As the cadets return home for their first school holiday, they must choose between what their families expect of them and their own dreams for the future.

It was inevitable that after the high drama of last week, things would be taken down a notch or two this time round, and while we get to spend some time filling in Genesis’ and Kyle’s back stories, this episode, written by Alex Taub and Eric Anthony Glover, is nothing special.

It starts promisingly enough, reflecting on the trauma of the battle – it’s a month later and Caleb hasn’t yet spoken to Tarima, who has only just come out of a coma. Fellow cadets died, and a spring break is essential for the survivors to lock their wounds. The two main threads follow the pairings of Caleb and Genesis, and Reymi and Kay-Den.

Genesis has been recommended for the fast-track route to becoming a captain but is concerned she’ll always be in the shadow of her high-performing father and can’t help self-sabotaging her progress. Reymi, however, is seemingly kidnapped from the academy and Kay-Den sets off to rescue him – though all is not what it first appears.

Verdict: Not bad by any stretch, there’s just nothing particularly engaging or significant here beyond some character development. 5/10
