During their first training mission on an abandoned ship, the cadets encounter a dangerous new enemy.
Goodness me, this is the good stuff. Marking the start of the second half of its first season, Starfleet Academy delivers big time with Come, Let’s Away, proving to be as good as any hour of Star Trek over the last few years.
Written by Kenneth Lin and Kiley Rosseter, this excellent episode starts to deliver on everything and everyone that we’ve met so far. War College and Starfleet are forced to work together to survive, a stark reversal of their previous rivalry where stalks were low. This is the point where they all have to grow up – they’re not in ’Frisco any more.
Even veteran Lanthanite – Holly Hunter’s Captain Ake – has to confront the severity of the situation, which introduces a gnarly new species to the Trekverse. And wouldn’t you know it, Paul Giamatti’s Nus is right in the middle of things.
Verdict: Good enough to be a season finale, this mid-season cracker is a triumph. 10/10
