Hero Collector, out now

An updated and expanded edition of Hero Collector’s detailed encyclopaedia of Starfleet vessels.

I’m guessing you know the drill by now – as with other releases in Hero Collector’s impressive, ongoing series of books devoted to different aspects of Star Trek’s spaceships, this is a handsome, hardback guide to   vessels. The jewel in their crown remains their Starfleet volume, which gets a second edition here to include vessels from Discovery season three and the first seasons of Picard and Lower Decks.

Each ship is recreated from the original CG renders (where available) and gets an in-universe profile. Only ships from the Prime timeline are included, so none of the movie vessels from 2009 onwards. It’s lovely to see the USS Titan and USS Cerritos in the same volume as the many Enterprises. And take a look at the designs of some of the 32nd century vessels from Discovery, like the Eisenberg class USS Nog (yes, it still brings a tear to the eye).

Verdict: If you never purchased the first edition, this a must-but for Trek-philes. Those in possession of the first release might balk at double-dipping, but that’s the thing about ongoing series, they keep going… boldly! 9/10
