As war looms between the Federation and Solum, Gwyn proposes to lead the cadets on an undercover mission to gather intelligence and rescue Ilthuran.

Don’t be deceived by the episode titles – this is one big, connected story that builds upon the story threads from across the season and ends up in full-scale war. This show may skew younger, but it is not childlike.

The animation in the battle scenes is particularly impressive, and Ascencia’s army run rings round a lot of Star Trek’s belligerent races, but ultimately it’s about the characters. Dal, Gwyn, Zero – we care about them all, and they have all been in significant journeys. And to have Janeway, Chakotay, the EMH and Wesley back in the same episode? What more do you want, people?! And that’s not to mention another legacy character.

Verdict: Prodigy is made by people who understand and love Star Trek. It absolutely bursts with big ideas and deserves to be held in the same high esteem as its live-action siblings. I really hope we get more seasons, so be sure to watch on Netflix and boost its ratings. 9/10
