When the crew encounters a dormant Borg Cube, Zero risks everything to save their ship.

The animated Star Trek show for younger viewers provides a primer for the franchise’s popular villains, the Borg, and doesn’t pull any punches.

The crew of the Protostar discover the super weapon – the Living Construct – on a hidden sub-deck, and realise that they need to shut it down before it causes mayhem. When a dormant Borg Cube appears, this seems like the ideal opportunity to tap into its hive mind to work out how to power the weapon down.

Zero bravely volunteers to connect himself to the central hub, the Borg Vinculum, while other members of the away team have to deal with advancing drones that are impervious to their phaser fire. Zero gets some well-deserved character development, many aspects of the Borg race are covered off, and again the production design is impressive.

Verdict: Resistance is not futile. The least kid-friendly of the Star Trek races is introduced to new viewers in an exciting and authentic half hour. 8/10
