The Diviner seeks to recover the Protostar’s warp core, while Gwynn discovers an awkward truth.

What a wonderful end to the first half of the season. Anyone who wrote off this animated Star Trek show as being just for kids will have missed some beautiful writing, gorgeous visuals and enchanting characters. Yes, it’s the perfect platform on which to introduce Star Trek’s ideals and tropes, but the sci-fi ideas and morality are never infantilised.

The second part of the first half finale, there’s a lot of tying up of loose ends, but not before Gwynn gains a good understanding of her father’s hatred of Starfleet. Even children need to know that life is rarely just black or white, and that regardless of the decision you make, it doesn’t always feel like you’ve won.

Evil holo-Janeway is great fun, and we just knew that she had a trick or two up her sleeve. And if that closing scene doesn’t make you punch the air in anticipation of Season 2, just where have you been the last 10 weeks?

Verdict: My favourite of the three animated Star Trek shows, and beating some of the live-action series, this is pure, bottled essence of Trek. 9/10
