Mariner tries to get demoted, Rutherford tries to get promoted, Boimler makes a big move.

The season opener concluded with three ensigns getting promoted (sorry, not you Rutherford) and Mariner is not happy. She starts playing up with Commander Ransom, but he’s having none of it – she has a history to self-sabotage.

The mysterious vessel that destroyed the Klingons at the end of Episode 1 continues its progress, this time with its sights on the Romulans, making for an interesting arc across this season. The sub-plot with Ransom and Mariner securing the release of humans from an alien menagerie is also well-written, developing not quite as you’d imagine.

Verdict: ‘I’ve been stabbing commanders in the back since before your mother killed her first traitor!’ Solid Lower Decks fare that justifies half an hour of your viewing time. 7/10
