Boimler tries to find a bridge buddy while the Cerritos crew has down time during a long warp trip.

After last week’s broad (frequently raucous) comedy, we return to a more regular day on the Cerritos where the crew is enjoying some r and r during a 12 hour warp. All the lower deckers are spending the day with a bridge buddy except Boimler, who wishes that he was working on a ship that has built-in social structures, like Klingons.

Cue the first of three visits to the lower decks of other vessels, run by Klingons, Vulcans and… I’ll leave the third race as a surprise for you. The Klingon lower deckers on Bird of Prey Che’Ta carry out menial tasks like scraping out the worm barrel, while the ensigns on Vulcan cruiser Sh’Vhal are castigated for showing too much emotion. The simple message is that although the grass might look greener on the other side of the quadrant, people are essentially the same all over.

Verdict: A fun episode that’s not overburdened by tech and takes advantage of its legacy races. 7/10
