The crew of the Cerritos discover illegal trading on a remote planet, while Tendi tracks down non-compliant members of the crew.
Truth be told, this is another low-key episode in a run of ho-hum stories, and hopefully things will pick up again. The main plot and the sub-plot are both a little pedestrian, with no significant jeopardy to drive them.
The Cerritos responds to a report that Mugato (the horned white gorillas from ToS’ A Private Little War) have been spotted on a non-indigenous planet. Captain Freeman is annoyed that they’ve pulled another ‘animal control op’, but there’s more going on than meets the eye, with a familiar race of villains pulling the strings.
And it’s fine, but just nothing special – the suggestion that Mariner is a secret Black Ops agent is not credible for a moment. And the sub-plot of Tendi trying to catch stragglers trying to evade their annual health check is very lightweight, the payoff little to get excited about.
Verdict: The punchline of this series is surely that those working in the less showy roles in Starfleet actually get to do some cool universe-saving stuff. Except that this season they’re actually doing the mundane stuff most of the time – fingers crossed for a surge of excitement. 6/10
