Tilly and Adira lead a team of Starfleet Academy cadets on a training mission that takes a dangerous turn. Meanwhile, Burnham is pulled into tense negotiations on Ni’Var.

This is one of those episodes that will probably be most remembered as the one where… and I have no intention of spoiling any surprise here. But it’s still possible to discuss this instalment without giving the game away.

After a fragmented previous episode, All is Possible splits predominantly into two more manageable main plots. The first sees Tilly and Adira taking some cadets on a typical survey mission for a full planetary analysis of an M-Class planet. But because it’s a ‘typical’ mission, something goes wrong, the craft crashes and the team are forced to work together to survive in an inhospitable environment that’s as icy as the atmosphere between the cadets. It’s a bit cliched, but it gives Tilly a chance to shine, and Mary Wiseman has a ball.

The other thread is about a summit to welcome Ni’Var back into the Federation, which has reached a sticking point because the rulers of the Vulcan planet want an exit clause should things stop going to plan. Luckily, whispering Michael Burnham is able to create some common ground, though just who was pulling the strings all along?

Verdict: It’s good to have a week that parks the anomaly as a main device, and it will be interesting to see if ‘that significant event’ sticks – we’ve been here before, after all. 7/10
