Paranoia and suspicion grow among the surviving group, as another body is discovered and terrible secrets from the past come to the surface.

Another couple of cast members meet grisly ends this week, whittling down further the survivors who could inherit the Galloway fortune, provided they can complete the fiendish games and evade the masked killer.

There’s a horrific murder at the beginning of the episode, but things then ease off as we move into the character stories and some more flashbacks that demonstrate what a monster the patriarch was (David Cronenberg plays the role perfectly). The survivors are now teaming up with one another into separate cliques that reflect the class structure in the household – the upstairs downstairs of the episode title – though it’s anyone’s guess which side will make it to the end.

Verdict: By the episode’s end we’re at the midway point of this gory whodunnit. Everything is still to play for and one hopes that there’s plenty of extra twists and turns to come. 7/10
