Back in Silo 18, Juliette’s refusal to ‘clean’ threatens to ferment a revolution.
Last week’s season opener left us with a great hook. Who is the sole survivor of Silo 17, threatening Juliette from behind the door, visible only by his wild eyes? Okay, so we know it’s Steve Zahn because he was in the cast list, but you get my meaning.
Annoyingly, if you hoped episode 2 would give you some answers, you will be disappointed. We’re back in Silo 18 where Juliette’s defiance – and her survival witnessed by the whole community – is threatening the status quo. Bernard (Tim Robbins) and his Head of Security (Common) are fighting a rearguard action to keep a lid on things. The story is decent enough. In season 1, they were perhaps the weakest aspect of the show – cardboard cut-out villains – but now we learn that in many ways they were as much in the dark as anyone else. This adds a fascinating layer of nuance to the characters.
However…
I don’t care!! I just want to know what’s going on next door!!!
I feel bad for saying this. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with episode 2, but I doubt I was the only viewer tapping their fingers just wanting to get back to Juliette (the excellent Rebecca Ferguson) and her mystery foe.
Verdict: Hopefully part 3 will take us back to what we’re really interested in. 7/10
