Various truths out while Jonah becomes ever-increasingly desperate as his body begins to breakdown. Can either the alliance of the parents or the kids survive the revelations that will be made?

This time out, we get to see a very different angle to the PRIDE parents. The show has always been careful not to make them simple caricature villains, and this instalment builds on that, revealing a side to them that’s almost genuine. As Jonah makes a proposal to them, they see a real opportunity to not only be rid of him, but also to actually do good in the world moving forward. There’s almost a touching naivete to their idea that perhaps if they can do this, their kids will see that everything they did up to now has been in service to this greater good – this idea that they can literally save the world. Certainly it puts their actions to date in a whole different morally grey area – yes they have been effectively sacrificing young children, but they’ve been doing it in the hope of achieving a better future for others. It doesn’t make their actions any less horrible, but it certainly starts to make a little more sense of why they’ve been carrying them out.

Jonah, after Robert’s attempt on his life is less angry than he is desperate to live, as shown in his offer to the PRIDE group. His assertion that something they’d hitherto accepted as an absolute certainty is actually not the case throws them all into a little bit of confusion as above, and his dismissal of one set of parents seems oddly calculated. One thing about Jonah that remains true is that you never really know what he’s up to, and that’s no different here – clearly he has a plan, but who knows what it might be?

Gert of course ran off to a hospital to get meds because she wasn’t coping well without them. Who she decides to turn to for help in getting them is an interesting choice, and one that causes issues between her and Chase (seriously, Runaways writers, I get that the drama is part of why I watch but can we just let these two be happy at some point?).

Chase and Gert aren’t the only ones with relationship issues though – Karolina and Nico have problems of their own, not least because Karolina is feeling increasingly guilty about the secrets that she’s being forced to keep from Nico including one absolute doozy that Leslie drops on her in their little meeting. Having seen what happened to the relationship between Alex and Nico when Alex revealed he’d kept something from her, Karolina is understandably nervous about coming clean, but struggling to live with the guilt of lying.

But all the squabbles of the kids have to be put aside when they discover Jonah may be about to make another sacrifice to prolong his life. Swinging into full rescue mission mode, they end up making a discovery they certainly were not expecting, and it seems that life may be about to get an awful lot more complicated for them.

Meanwhile, Janet has decided to take control as the other parents have their own internal squabbles and disagreements, and she’s got a new(ish) partner in crime to do it. Despite all of their various respective protestations on the issue, of all the PRIDE parents, it seems maybe Janet actually does genuinely have the best interests of the kids at heart.

Verdict: There’s so much going on here in an episode that’s action-light but oh-so-packed with drama that you might find yourself gasping for breath by the end. Certainly you won’t be able to wait to see what happens next as the credits roll. 9/10
