Liz gets a visit from someone with an intriguing proposal. Anatsa keeps digging into a story that’s going to raise some awkward questions for Max and Isobel. Two members of Jones’ backup Triad go a little off piste and attract attention.

Having got all the re-introductory stuff out of the way, the show starts to dive into this season’s arc proper. First up, Liz has a visit from a stranger with connections to her past, a boatload of resources and a very tempting proposal connected to the ‘rain storm’ which happened as Barmageddon took place. Liz isn’t ready to commit to marriage just yet, and isn’t even sure about what she’s doing in terms of her professional life, so is she ready to take this step?

Meanwhile, Isobel’s girlfriend is causing all sorts of potential problems – turns out dating an intrepid journalist isn’t necessarily the best idea when you’re trying to keep a secret. As she chases down leads and witnesses to the bank robbery, she starts getting a little too close to finding out something she shouldn’t, leading Kyle and Max to lose their respective cool and putting Isobel in a heartbreaking position.

Speaking of the bank robbers, ‘Bonnie’ and ‘Clyde’, as they have decided to name themselves, are starting to live a little as they wait further orders for the next part of the Grand Plan. That means taking in a little more of the planet Earth and the delights it has to offer, although Bonnie is a little keener than Clyde. This part honestly starts to feel a little on the nose as Clyde monologues about how degenerate humans are, etc. but I have the strangest feeling of what direction these two might end up pointing in so I’ll give it a pass for now.

Michael and Alex have one of their traditional wobbles when Alex proposes using Michael’s alien console to save him some footslogging in chasing down leads on exactly what the storm was, but it all gets resolved in the usual way. I feel like these two, who have clearly been meant for one another since the first episode of the show, need to be given a little bit of a break by the writers, but I have the sense that won’t be happening anytime soon.

Max meanwhile is set on tracking down Bonnie and Clyde with Cam in tow. Cam gets to meet Dallas, to whom she takes an instant liking, and it seems like there might be something there for later on in the show. But as far as Dallas is concerned, a good start would be everyone not immediately discounting his help or expertise, as he quite clearly demonstrates more than once over the course of the episode.

Verdict: Things are starting to bubble away – the occasional bum note but overall another solid instalment. 7/10
