Vic receives a phone call from Christmasland, asking her to come visit so that the young residents can play a game of Scissors for the Drifter.

Manx is in a bad way following his beating by Vic and Jolene and is helped by a Good Samaritan who will later regret this kindness. He’s at his weakest and phones Bing to fly out to Colorado and rescue him. But it’s not just Manx who is smarting – Maggie has thrown away her Scrabble tiles and is back on the drugs, while Vic’s mom has done the inconceivable and sold her motorbike, her only access to the bridge.

The theme of pulling yourself back up after a fall dominates the episode and the main characters try to recover at speed, knowing that the others are snapping at their heels. Once Manx’s Wraith is fully fuelled and fixed he’s back to his lethal self, taking a new passenger to Christmasland. And in one of the series’ frequently shocking moments we meet the pack of vampire kids, scissors at the ready to dismember their new victim.

Verdict: Manx is back at full strength, but there’s dissent in his ranks when he won’t let Bing in to his winter wonderland. We know that there will be consequences, as he’ll go to any length to get off the naughty list. Sadly, any advantage gained the previous week has been lost and we can only sit back as neutral observers as evil gains further footholds in this compelling drama. 8/10
