Bing and Manx converge on the lakehouse, determined to abduct Wayne. Will Lou and Chris be strong enough to protect the child before Vic gets there.

For me, this is hands down the best episode of the show to date, and that includes last year. A pre-credits scene witnesses Vic’s emergency c-section and Wayne’s traumatic birth, stressing the bond that mother and child have, and mirroring a final scene in a hospital with Vic breaking down at the realisation that her son has gone.

This is powerful stuff, with Ashleigh Cummings on top form as Vic, relentlessly facing up against Charlie and Bing as they kidnap her son. She’s beaten with a hammer and shot at but she just won’t give up, and the whole episode flies by in a moment. Action-packed and emotionally charged, the young mother has never needed to be stronger, with a mocking Manx (Zachary Quinto have a great time) suggesting that Wayne would be better off without her.

Flipping between Wayne’s and Vic’s POV, replaying scenes from different perspectives, is a neat device to keep reminding us that this episode is about mother and child. The latter’s abduction is every parent’s nightmare and we know she’ll bounce back to confront Charlie in Christmasland.

Verdict: A superb hour of TV. We’re already halfway through this second season and it’s been a blast. I think it’s time for Charlie to get what coming to him! 10/10
