With hypothermia threatening to overcome May, Kentaro takes the difficult decision to split from the group.
Serving as the conclusion of a two-parter about the Alaskan adventure, the pace established in previous episodes is maintained while allowing some time to develop characters.
At the end of Episode 3, older Shaw (Kurt Russell) and his three young companions narrowly escape with their lives from the attack of an icy beast. They find a cavern to temporarily hid from it, but in the absence of supplies, hypothermia will likely claim May’s life.
In a change to previous weeks, the flashbacks are not to the 1950s but to a year ago, when Kentaro first meets May at an art gallery. It helps provide context for their relationship, driving him forward as he goes for help.
Verdict: A satisfying conclusion to this chapter, setting up bigger problems for the team next time. 8/10
