Chloe investigates the death of a DJ, and an old flame seems set to get in Lucifer’s way…

There’s some humour to be derived from watching Chloe and Lucifer all loved up in the opening scenes, but thankfully this is pushed to the side by the arrival of former Knight Rider star Justin Bruening, as Chloe’s first teenage love. The scenes with him and Tom Ellis are nicely pitched, and it’s always interesting to see the arch-manipulator being manipulated.

The middle part of the episode sags a bit, with the ladies “bonding” in Lux during a sting operation – although seeing Maze trying to “be” Ella raises a smile – and the guys doing a Three Men and a Baby routine, which seems to be there primarily for an excuse for Lucifer to show his devil face… Which leads to what’s actually the most important part of the episode, as someone else inadvertently (well, inadvertent on his part, but not on Michael’s) finds out the truth. There are few who aren’t in the know, and this opens up some really interesting possibilities.

The final scenes move Lucifer and Chloe’s relationship on irrevocably, although you have to wonder if Linda’s comments about Lucifer will be running around her brain now…

Verdict: A solid start and finish, but a weak middle – an episode that would have benefitted from the standard running time. 7/10
