Diana finds herself in Captain Lancaster’s crosshairs, and when a visitor from his past arrives, Atticus and Leti take steps to protect their future.

Moving into the third act of this season, Diana  (Jada Harris) finally gets the chance to step out of the shadows, but finds herself in great peril. With her father dead, her mother missing and now her best friend brutally murdered, Diana (Dee) is cursed by Captain Freeman, which releases two terrifying dancing demons based on Uncle Tom’s Cabin’s Topsy – the absolute stuff of nightmares.

We don’t find out what has happened to Hippolyta since the last episode, but everybody else is fighting with magic – conjuring up demons, gaining immortality or protection. Ruby is still having very messy sex with Christina/William, Jung-Oh turns up to warn Tic about his impending death and Montrose finally gets to tell his story to his son.

There’s a lot going on, and it’s satisfying that the threads are pulling together. Christina being beaten, shot and wrapped in barbwire is a horrific moment, the same manner in which Bobo was killed, and she distastefully uses it to test her newfound immortality – it works! But the scene you’ll remember most is the police ambush on the guest house and the appearance of a shoggoth to protect Tic. Bodies fly around the screen, are speared, shredded and ripped apart – it’s not called Lovecraft Country for nothing.

Verdict: Plot heavy, yet still unafraid to ask uncomfortable questions, this show continues to spellbind me. 9/10
