With John and Don off the planet, the colonists discover an alternative fuel to power the Jupiters, but the harvesting has certain complications.
After the previous episode’s cliffhanger, we desperately want to see what happened after the Jupiter exploded, but cheekily that’s saved for the final segment. The more pressing concern for Maureen is that Smith (who now has nothing to lose) has kidnapped her and is enlisting her to help power-up the reconstructed Robot. There’s some good rapport between these two characters, each trying to hold dominance in this precarious situation.
The discovery of the alternative fuel is very convenient and (literally) bat shit crazy. Cue the colonists creeping round a dark cave to gather the guano, while waking up the winged beasties in the process. The monster effects are very good and this tense scene lets Angela go all Pitch Black and save the day after her previous altercation with John.
Verdict: Danger, Doctor Smith! As we prepare for the final episode, danger levels are at maximum overload as every main player is in a position of peril, and Robot being Smith’s lapdog can’t be a good thing. 8/10
