The Robinson parents set off looking for other colonists and a way to contact the Resolute. The kids decide that while the cat’s away…

After a couple of ‘peril of the week’ episodes it’s good to see the series expand its premise by going further into the planet – exploring its psychedelic flora and monstrous fauna. We also finally get to be formally introduced to Don West (and his good luck hen, Debbie) and a whole bunch of other colonists. Unlike the original show which relied on others coming to the planet, we already have a population of humans to interact with.

There are still concerns over Robot, and the kids become uncharacteristic bullies when one of the new youngsters threatens to tell. I assume that this momentary aberration will resolve itself when Judy (who’s clearly smitten with the lad) backtracks on her blackmail tactics. Parker Posey’s Dr Smith has less to do in this instalment, but being the opportunist that she is, recognises that Robot could do with an ally.

John and Maureen engage in some captive counselling when trapped (though thankfully for not too long), addressing outstanding marital issues, and we also get to meet the rather dour leader of the colonists Victor Dhar (played by Raza Jaffrey) who feels like he’s next in line to undergo some trauma to lighten him up.

Verdict: More an episode of moments, moving the various pieces around the board in readiness for the next push. Oh, and this gender swapping of a doctor character is working really well – whatever next?! 7/10
