With Darla’s help, Lisey sets out to rescue Amanda so the three sisters can unite to take on Jim Dooley.
While we’re not out of the woods (or swamp) yet, there’s an optimistic tone to this week’s instalment of the Stephen King adaptation that sees our titular lead regain her power. After two weeks of pain, directed both at her and her husband’s younger brother, Lisey is back in the game. The first thing she does is to release her sister Amanda from her imprisonment in Boo’ya Moon.
The strongest element of this show is the bonding between the three sisters, and all of them come together to support Lisey as she plans to lure psychopath Jim Dooley back to the house. Whether or not they are underestimating the psychopath’s strength (and he is certainly formidable and resourceful) we’ll discover next week. But the gloves are well and truly off, as demonstrated in Lisey’s taking down of Professor Dashmiel.
Verdict: After a shaky opening to the series and an uncomfortable emphasis on misery (with a lower case ‘m’), this King adaptation is closer to what I hoped it would be – but will it deliver a satisfying ending? 8/10
