You can’t end it there!
High drama does indeed prevail in this series finale. This episode sits on the edge of wrapping story arcs while setting up a second series (that starts filming in Spring 2022).
New storylines branch as our key players make life-changing decisions and sacrifices. New pairings and teams are set up, with Scott possibly in prime position to get to the bottom of how and why the sink hole time-sky-crack things came to be in the first place. There are some shockers and unexpected events as it looks like we might be heading to 1988 next time around.
I still don’t know who Silas really is, but I’m not sure I care anymore. His motives seem confusing and while we now understand the connection to the Harris family, it makes his actions seem even less plausible.
Time travel, especially drawn on an epic scale as with La Brea, is always full of sink-holes (yes, I went there) for the narrative to stumble and fall into. I regret to report that this is partially the case here – while there is some coherence, it’s not consistent. That being said, it’s a solid story with a lot more legroom and I’ll be tuning in for the second series to see where they take it.
Verdict: A season finale with long-awaited answers? No, we’re left hanging from one of the cliffs in Topanga, until series 2 drops. 7/10
