The teenagers become embroiled in Dr Wu’s attempts to gain Indominus rex samples…
Absolute confirmation in this episode that we’re six months after the end of Jurassic World, and in the sequence of events in the prologue to Fallen Kingdom – we see various key scenes from that from alternate angles (and cutting away before the poor scientist gets taken from below). The atmosphere has got darker, not purely from the storm, as the series starts to match the sequel’s tone.
There’s various well-done sequences as well as the re-envisioning of the Fallen Kingdom scenes, and Ben’s “been there, done that” talk to the helicopter pilot reminds us both of his relative age and experience. There’s something bigger than all of the kids at stake now – they may have rid the island of its two Scorpii rex but if Wu gets his laptop, there’s the potential for worse on the mainland.
Nothing in this episode pushes back against the idea that this is a two-episode add-on to the eight-episode third season; there’s enough going on for three normal paced instalments.
Verdict: An exciting coda to the third season pitting our heroes against a load of heavily-armed adults. So, no change there… 8/10
