How can the campers stay alive and prevent Dr Wu from carrying out his mission?
The finale for the current season of Camp Cretaceous could serve as a series conclusion – although I hope we find out just what it is that’s on the yacht with them – and wraps the various plotlines up nicely. Once again we get some dark action sequences, with considerably more actual death and destruction than we’ve had in the majority of the series, even if most of it is told via sound effects, and we see how determined the teenagers are to make sure things are made right. There’s a nice throwback to the first season, with Sammy’s flash drive somehow miraculously surviving everything that’s happened, and Kenji demonstrating that he’s certainly learned some things during their sojourn – even if it means he and Darius are at odds.
This extra pair of episodes also shifts some of the dynamic within the group ready for a potential fourth year (although I would love it if there’s some passing reference in Dominion, possibly including voice cameos by the actors). The bonds between them all aren’t as strong as they might like to imagine – Yaz was far closer to the mark initially when she said they’d part ways once they were back home.
It’s been a strong third year, with no weird excursions for an episode (although the review of the Ben flashback has probably been read more often here than any other!) and even if we don’t get more Camp Cretaceous, something similar tying into the next movie would be great.
Verdict: A strong conclusion to a constantly strong show. 9/10
