What happened to Ben.
It’s very rare that I say this about any instalment of a TV series, but this really is one that you can skip without any major problems. All the good work done making the teenagers credible – such as they can be in such an environment – goes to waste, as Ben (without any sign that he’s getting any proper food) goes from the proverbial 98 pound weakling into the Tarzan figure, with suddenly fully grown ankylosaurus by his side, who turned up at the end of episode 4.
It’s a trope that’s been used in the franchise before – in Jurassic Park III, if you skipped that one – but that was definitely more believable, although even that skirted the edge of credibility. Unless there’s a suicidal side to Ben that we don’t get any chance to see in the first 15 minutes of the episode, then what does he think he’s doing, going up against an apex predator with a pointy stick?!
All you need to know is that somehow Ben survived. And move on to episode 6.
Verdict: Unless there’s something hidden in there that becomes vital to the last three episodes (in which case I will edit this to reflect that), this is a waste of time. 2/10
