Juri forms a dangerous relationship with the block’s drug dealers, and an insurance investigator gets more than he bargained for.
In his ongoing search for the baby, Juri is captured by the tower block’s drug dealers and bluffs that he was on his way to seeing them. He gives them a set of the building’s master keys and in return they show him how their operation works, from ordering to dispensing the narcotics. Far safer to keep them on side, even if he is now regarded as a fellow criminal.
Juri’s father has a visit from Zettel, a corrupt insurance investigator who is managing the claim for the family home that was destroyed in the fire. He’s suspicious why the fire detector wasn’t working, leading to the tragedy where Juri’s mother died. Zettel agrees to settle the claim, but only if he gets 50% of the payout – something that Jaschek and the building are not prepared to compromise over.
The dogs and cats of the episode title refer to the vicious hound that roams the hallways and a cat that won’t eat… though by the end of the hour, both have dined on human flesh. The building is also hungry, sucking a victim down into the black, viscous goo, to be consumed as fuel.
Verdict: More of the same, the deliberate pace may be consistent with that of other episodes, but one hopes that there’s more narrative development coming our way soon. 7/10
