Sara must face the music, as word of her return spreads through town…

I’m out of patience. From continues to spin its wheels and I’ve officially had enough. We are five episodes in and not a single point raised in season one has been answered and as for the additional mysteries added to the pile this season? Nothing.

This is beyond frustrating into the actively dislike stage of watching the show.

What is doubly frustrating is that the cast are watchable, their stories interesting from an emotional point of view but they’re also deeply irritating because, for the charade to continue, they have to avoid talking to one another about their experiences.

Go with me here.

Imagine you’ve been stuck in a world in which no matter how far or fast you drive you always come round to the same spot. Then imagine that you’ve discovered the wires providing electricity don’t go anywhere, that the radio comes on by itself and that people, not just you, but many of you, are having strange visions and experiences.

Now also imagine you’re hunted (only at night) by weird underground dwelling shapeshifters who can magically beguile you if you listen and watch them.

Now imagine that you refuse to talk about a single new weird thing because, apparently, it’s weird… No, it’s not plausible in any way yet our characters are repeatedly reduced to standing around in silence and saying nothing because they, inexplicably, think that this new weird thing won’t be believed.

All the while they’re also saying they have to ‘solve’ the place they’re in to escape.

Look. I like the main cast. I like them as characters and I think the acting is excellent.

But this show has run out of road with its insistence on not answering its own problems and contorting its characters to accommodate that refusal.

Verdict: I’ve been a patient reviewer. I’ve waited for nearly five hours of season two for answers and still I get nothing. This isn’t tension building and it’s not building the lore in any way that leaves me wanting more. What I’m asking for here is the basics of storytelling and it’s entirely missing.

If episode six rectifies that then great but it’s likely to be too little, too late.

Rating? 5 out of 10
