What Women Want, the Fantasy Island edition.

Ambitious, career-driven women, that is. Women who have been working, raised a child and completed higher education at the same time. We exist, and we’re after world domination… Courtney, our guest this week, might just get it.

Given the power to read minds, via a tin of sweets that temporarily gift her the ability, Courtney finds that her hero is a self-absorbed thief and the one person who spoke their mind is their champion, of sorts.

It’s a predictable reversal of expectations, a depiction of outward appearance versus true colours, but there’s a nice parallel with the main story arc involving our returning cast. Ruby discovers that not every being is as they seem – or does she?

There’s much more of the drama between Elena and Ruby over Isla, the mermaid who has driven a solid wedge between the two island caretakers. This is where it’s at for me; it’s a much more compelling story, one that’s truly keeping me tuned in. There are also strong scenes from our two supporting characters Segundo and Javier, with the former dispensing valuable wisdom while the latter gets an unexpected revelation that gives us a tender moment that will undoubtedly please fans. Yet by the end of the episode, I’m feeling genuinely anxious for Elena’s right-hand woman.

Verdict: As the battle-lines are drawn for a showdown, will Ruby’s heart sink or swim? 8/10
