An Air Force pilot reports seeing a strange craft – and the Vatican is interested…
This is an interesting episode, in that it feels as if a lot of pieces are being moved around the board ready for the back four instalments. The case of the week is intriguing, but it’s how it’s handled by the Vatican – and indeed all authority – that raises more questions, both in our team’s minds and the watchers.
We also have Leland back on form, inviting Sheryl for a special meal… which we know is not necessarily something that she would choose to eat (and indeed confirms that the scenes involving Leland and his therapist actually were happening rather than, as I wondered, just being in his mind). Michael Emerson and Christine Lahti are always a great double act when they’re together, and while it’s fun to see Sheryl in grandma mode, the verbal (and sometimes not so verbal) jousting between Leland and her is pure fun.
As far as our leads go, Kristen has to face up to some harsh realities, leading to a powerful scene between her and David – Katja Herbers and Mike Colter play the subtext of this brilliantly. Ben is more involved with the UFO investigation but he’s more than up for helping David look further into RSM Fertility.
We also get the introduction of the Catholic Church secret service, named the “Entity” here. That feels a little Dan Brown-ish (although the arrival of our trio on The Lost Symbol might perk that up a bit) and it’s unclear whether they’re something of a red herring, or an ongoing threat/aid…
Verdict: An episode that pivots some of the characters into new paths. 8/10
