The survivors use a department store as a fortress as threats start to grow from within.

In an unusually emotional episode of Day of the Dead, our survivors are starting to feel the reality of their predicament, starting with a few choice words about dead Trey before he’s ignited in a fiery dumpster. Amy and Jai also have a heart to heart, clearing the air about what should have happened at their zombie-invaded wedding and promising to get married as soon as is practical.

Zombie experiment Bub (one of the few holdovers from the original film) discovers a novel way to break out of his cage and starts turning the tables on those who captured him. Elsewhere, Amy’s dad’s wound needs new stitches and something strange is happening to Lauren. But most significantly we get an explanation for the origin of the outbreak; Sarah’s grandmother fills us in on a Native American legend, and it’s probably not the one you expected.

Verdict: Confident, thrilling and fun – for me it’s the strongest episode since the opener. 8/10
