Losing many of their own, the remaining survivors prepare for the ultimate showdown with the undead.

Whoever would have though that a low(ish) budget TV series based on George A Romero’s 1985 movie could find a place in such a crowded market of stumbling zombies, and yet that’s exactly what is proved here. Sticking to a tried and tested formula, and at times revelling in old clichés, this has been a joy from start to finish.

There’s not a lot of people left holding the fort at the Paymart, and the plan now is to lure the zombies away from the supermarket (using some reticent live bait) and back to the mine where the ancient evil had previously been imprisoned. The budget doesn’t allow all-out warfare, but there’s some exciting skirmishes and final sacrifices. Is this the end of the road, or will the walking dead be back for more? The producers would like to think so.

Verdict: Fun, gory nonsense with a foot in the 80s – it’s been a blast. 8/10
