Tim finds the answer to always wishing there were more hours in the day, and a local librarian tries to stop a darker part of a town’s history from repeating itself.
In Time Out, law student Tim inherits an armoire (magical closet) from his grandmother that offers its user additional time, but with a warning never to enter it without the key. Immediately, you know that’s going to play an important part in the story, as Tim passes his exams with flying colours and becomes a senior associate in under four years. Ultimately, it’s a tale of addiction and having to pay the price for cheating nature.
The Things in Oakwood’s Past is fully animated (not just the opening and closing scenes with the Creep) and takes us to the town of Oakwood which is reaching its two hundred year anniversary from when the town’s inhabitants all disappeared. The mayor’s daughter (Danielle Harris, Halloween series) has discovered some old journals that point towards a time capsule containing the secrets of the disappearance, and her father, Mayor Wrightson (Mark Hamill, Star Wars) is determined to open it on TV. Let’s just say that there are things here that probably couldn’t have been shown live action and that animation was a wise choice.
Verdict: Two strong stories, the second being particularly visceral. 8/10
