A siren lures a doctor into her trap to carry out a diabolical plan, and a teenage girl must fight off a demonic plague when she realizes her family might be infected.
A very different pair of stories this week, giving us comedy and pure horror. Stranger Sings is a broad comedy about a doctor, Barry (Chris Mayers, Ozark), who is taken back to the home of Sara (Suehyla El-Attar, Ant-Man and the Wasp) after a cute meet at a coffee shop. What he hasn’t realised is that this is the lair of a bird-like siren – a plot similar to last week’s What We Do in the Shadows. Things get even more bizarre when he’s asked to swap the voice box of the siren Miranda (Kadianne Whyte) with that of Sara. It’s a fun diversion with an unlikely ending, and a great practical effect of the creature.
Meter Reader is a grimmer affair, sharing a post-apocalyptic world where meter readers are used to identify those afflicted by a demonic plague curse and then cut off their heads. There’s a lot of world building in this half hour, as meter reader Dalton (Jonathon Schaech, Legends of Tomorrow) works with Theresa (Abigail Dolan) to fight her father. It’s not your typical Creepshow fare, but it’s a tense possession thriller and fills its half hour well.
Verdict: Laughs and chills in abundance this week, demonstrating how broad a canvas that Creepshow has to play with. 7/10
