A space station makes first contact with an alien species and a high school girl is convinced that her brother is trying to kill her.

This week’s duo of horror tales both boast a killer twist, which I will carefully step over to avoid spoiling things. First up we’re on a space station called the Oculus in The Right Snuff, a Fifties-set pulp sci-fi yarn that posits we were a lot more advanced in our space exploration than we really were.

Astronauts Alex (Ryan Kwanten, True Blood) and Ted (Breckin Meyer, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare) are testing out new technology that eliminates weightlessness. They narrowly avoid a collision with an external force and later find out that this was an invitation for a first contact meeting. Alex is already living in the shadow of his pioneering father and is gutted when Ted is chosen over him for this historic event. Human greed takes over and this morality play concludes with the survivor getting what he deserves.

In Sibling Rivalry, Lola (Maddie Nichols, The Outsider), who has recently moved to Manchester High School, is trying to convince her teacher Mrs Porter (80s icon Molly Ringwald) that her brother Andrew (Andrew Brodour) is trying to kill her. Unfortunately, because her tale is wrapped up in so much teenager exaggeration, Lola isn’t believed – with deadly consequences.

Verdict: With Creepshow, you’re normally way ahead of the characters, working out the twists long before they do. This week, I was delighted to be surprised by both story endings, wrapping up some gory, fun vignettes. 8/10
