Jake is on a quest to the other side in an attempt to put an end to Chucky’s evil once and for all.
To say any more about the plot in the finale of what has been a joyous eight episodes of Chucky excess wouldn’t just be spoilertastic, it would be trying to rationalise the orgiastically irrational, and what on earth is the point of that? Just buckle up and go with it is my advice.
But if your appetite does need whetting, then be prepared for Devon Sawa popping up again (despite all of his characters having been bloodily dispatched) and providing the most touching moment of the series; Zachary Arthur proving that he has some real acting chops in a superb twist to his portrayal of hero Jake; Jennifer Tilly doing lots more Jennifer Tilly; a cameo from one of the undisputed kings of cult cinema; and, as the bloody icing on the Chucky cake, a completely left field homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey (and no, it’s not the bone being thrown in the air).
There’s lots to enjoy… which does mean the episode (like many finales) is a little overstuffed, but it’s a great ride and not unsatisfying, with a few neat twists along the way.
Verdict: This has been a truly great season, so much so, that while of course I’ll be back for the next one (teed up in the closing titles, even if it hasn’t been confirmed as yet), the phrase ‘how on earth do you follow that?’ does come to mind. 8/10
