A spa day for Maggie and Mel leaves Kaela in sole charge of the Command Centre. But the Tallyman doesn’t plan on letting anyone relax.
So, Maggie really did lay into that young man who was harassing her last time out. So much so that she’s arrested and charged. This is literally the character at her lowest ebb – an empath whose empathy is so far from her at the moment that she almost beat a young man to death in the street. She’s shell-shocked, and in no mood to talk about it with anyone.
That of course doesn’t sit well with Mel, who needs to talk about everything ever, and is determined to ‘fix’ her little sister. This leads to her insisting on a spa day for the two of them, with Maggie agreeing only on the strict understanding that she won’t be forced to talk about what happened. Guess how long Mel manages to keep that promise.
Kaela meanwhile finds herself left at the Command Centre alone to watch over things while the other two are gone. Predictably, she runs into issues and through a series of unfortunate events finds herself at the Blue Camellia looking for help from Roxie. What she finds instead is a new friend she isn’t all that interested in making, but who is able to help her in unexpected ways.
Of course, the Charmed Ones aren’t going to be given any slack by the Tallyman, who’s still at work trying to cause trouble for all of them at every turn. Infiltrating the Spa, he wrong foots both Mel and Maggie when he doesn’t take an apparently obvious opportunity to harm them, and that seeds an interesting thought for later down the line. Regardless, people are harmed and even killed and it takes the combined efforts of all three sisters to, if not exactly save the day, at least calm it down significantly.
No Harry or Jordan this week, as the show chooses to focus on the Charmed Ones themselves, and there’s plenty of work done on the emotional side of things. Unlike previous seasons, it’s starting to feel like a show where characters get arcs and progression instead of treading the same paths over and over.
Verdict: A nice mix of quiet character stuff and some good action. 8/10
